Qian Xuan (Chinese, c. 1235-1300) was a scholar-official until the 1279 Mongol conquest of China.  Preferring retirement to serving the new dynasty, Qian and other yimin ("leftover subjects") pursued artistic endeavors.  Qian painted flowers, landscapes, and historical figures, reviving older styles to keep alive China's glorius past.
