Kim Henson is inspired by the intricate beauty of nature. She strives to render her subjects realistically and poignantly in a variety of media, including watercolor, pen and ink, acrylic, and oil.

Kim grew up in the Midwest, where her father was an accomplished artist, and where she was trained as a molecular biologist. A professional artist for the past several years, Kim has illustrated a children’s book about the sea creatures of coastal Maine, From Amazing American Eels to Zillions of Zooplankton, and a second book, Wisdom From the Gardens, featuring seasonal images that bind us to nature and give inspiration. Her work is exhibited along the East Coast and can be found in private and corporate collections.

In December 2005 Kim opened a gallery and studio in downtown Carlisle that offers a range of options in fine art, design, and illustration. Available here are hand painted floor cloths, furniture, ceramic tiles, architectural portraits of homes and businesses, and her notable natural studies of flora and fauna. A variety of work is always available for purchase, from note cards and bookmarks to fine prints and originals.

For more information, please feel free to contact the artist or visit the gallery located on the second floor of Whistlestop Bookshop. The hours are the same as the book store: 10 - 6 Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, 10 - 8 Thursdays and Fridays, and 10 - 6 Saturdays. Kim is usually at work there Thursdays and Saturdays or by appointment. Whistlestop Bookshop’s number is 717-243-4744.
