Children's Books New and Notable
It is a golden age for children's books. On this page we will feature new, recent, and classic books that must be kept in mind always. Although categories are more flexible than ever, we will try to dedicate this page to what we call picture books, illustrated books to share between children from 2 to 92. Carlisle is extraordinarily fortunate to be home to Amy June Bates, an ever-rising and nationally-acclaimed children's book artist. Amy has a separate page dedicated solely to her work.
Muffin Plays Outside
Muffin Plays Outside
As Muffin watches the animals in her yard from a window in her house, she dreams of playing outside with them. One day, with no leash holding her back, she gets her chance and dashes outside, running up to one animal after another.
Muffin’s day does not work out the way she imagined. Though, children will laugh at her attempts to play with Squirrel, Chipmunk, Bunny, Robin, Goat, and Frog.
With illustrations as entertaining as the story itself, Muffin is sure to find a place in children’s hearts. Muffin Plays Outside will be the book parents hear their children say, over and over, “Read Muffin again!”
The real Muffin came to live with her people parents, Deborah Sweaney and Jim Baker, when she was seven weeks old. She quickly became an integral member of their family. Muffin’s antics form the basis of the Muffin stories. This is Deborah’s first children’s book. Her other books are aimed at an older audience. She was drawn to children’s literature after reading to first graders at Mt. Holly Springs Elementary school in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
Sally Schaedler brings her years of illustrating children’s books to the Muffin stories. Her brilliant drawings bring the story to life and capture Muffin’s world in colorful images that will delight both children and adults.
