Coloring Books
Coloring books are inspired by the Stone Age cave drawings and paintings, the Egyptian tomb narrations, the Asian scroll paintings, the Mayan historical accounts, the illuminated manuscripts, and the "funny papers" of the last century. Their popularity, led by the dazzling British artist Johanna Basford, exploded in 2015 and made many publishers both astonished and very happy. Every month now we are inundated with coloring book offerings, but I am trying to hold back the great tide by carefully choosing the ones we like best. We carry more in the store than what is listed here -- so far we have not listed those suitable for children (Dover's many horse books and their excellent historical books). We may get to those, but for now in the website we point you to the so-called "adult" books and some appropriate supplies that we like. Enjoy!

Gorgeous line art begs for color in this compendium of the beasts, monsters, and flora and fauna of Middle-earth. Bring your favorite creatures from the books into sharp detail with your colored pencils or markers. Smaug the dragon, Balrogs, Hobbits, and Elves give you plenty of opportunity for creativity and shading. Turn each page into a precious work of art!
