Local Authors Past and Present
Work in progress here -- the field is richer than first envisioned. We hope to incorporate past authors (Marianne Moore, Jean Craighead George, Hugh Henry Brackenridge, and so on), present authors/illustrators (Amy Bates, Megan Lloyd-Thompson, Adrienne Su, Kim van Alkemade, Sherry Knowlton, and so on), and books from authors who knew the Valley well and wrote about events here (Lois Lenski, Lois Lowry, Conrad Richter, and so on). We will organize them with category headers for better searching and annotate them with the particulars as we work on this. Keep checking!
Sanctuary
Sanctuary
Written in the shadow of 9/11, these narrative poems reveal heartfelt insights into the emotional life of a contemporary woman in her late 30s - balancing marriage, motherhood and career - as well as contemplating her experience as the daughter of Chinese immigrants, for whom ambition is a lower priority than survival.
Adrienne Su was born in 1967 and raised in Atlanta. She received her A.B. from Harvard, and an M.F.A. from the University of Virginia. Awards include a Pushcart Prize as well as residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell. Adrienne teaches at Dickinson College. She is the author of Middle Kingdom (Alice James) and Sanctuary (Manic D).
