Whistlestop Bookshop t-shirt
Our very own t-shirt designed by Jeff Wood. The image is a Buddhist monk poring over a scroll with writing instruments at hand. The text is from Yoshida Kenko, a late 13th-early 14th Century Japanese essayist and monk, whose Tsurezuregusa is one of my favorite books. The quote reads: "To sit alone in the lamplight with a book spread out before you, and hold intimate converse with men of unseen generations -- such is a pleasure beyond compare." With the allowance that the unseen generations would also include women, I love this ideal of the reading experience.
