Vikings & Anglo-Saxons!
We are a hardy race, being independent booksellers, so of course we are interested in those Norse entrepreneurs who made Europe a lively place in the so-called Dark Ages.
One of the standard-setting writers about medieval Scandinavia was Nobel Prize-winning Sigrid Undset. I have assembled all her works that we carry on this page, even though they technically do not involve Viking culture and history (a few are even contemporary to Undset’s own time). Other than that, she needs no defense as one of the greatest of historical novelists.
Many books have emerged on the conflicts, the tensions, and the meldings between the Vikings and the inhabitants of what would become the British isles, so I have expanded the topic to include the Picts, the Druids, and Anglo-Saxons.
Tales of the Norse Warrior Gods
Tales of the Norse Warrior Gods
Loki, the deity of mischief; Gerda, the beautiful goddess of light; Odin, the chief of all the gods; and other immortal figures of Norse mythology come vividly to life in this beautifully illustrated book for young readers.
The exciting collection of 29 tales is myth at its best, narrating the adventures of (among others) Thor, the thunder god, son of Odin; Baldur, another son of Odin, a radiant god of beauty, purity, and peace; and Freya, the goddess of fertility and beauty. Closely bound to Asgard, their mythologic home, these mighty warriors are powerful beings, capable of superhuman feats, but still exhibit very human weaknesses.
Handed down from generation to generation, the thrilling tales of gods on earth and their miraculous feats will charm young readers with their powerful stories of magic and mystery.
